Introduced as an alternative to the external antenna version of the 9502, this product integrates the 9502 modem with a compact antenna to create a single-piece, integrated, rugged terminal to withstand the most extreme weather conditions. Providing reliable IP connectivity over the Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN), it includes backup and out-of-band management to primary site communications—ideal for SCADA and unattended sites equipped for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications such as environmental monitoring, SmartGrid, pipeline monitoring/control, compressor monitoring/control, well site automation and surveillance.
The exceptional low power consumption (1W idle) of the Hughes 9502 makes it possible to provide end-to-end IP connectivity to sites that are off the grid. This breakthrough provides end-to-end IP connectivity to power-challenged locations that rely upon solar-battery arrays involving sensitive power budgets.
The Hughes 9502 includes 10 meters of RF cabling, granting the user freedom to position the antenna remotely and away from the transceiver in complex installations while securing the SIM card inside a premise or enclosure to better protect against unauthorized use, theft, and vandalism.
Future firmware releases would be uncommon, meanwhile any such modem update will qualify for no charge over-the-air (OTA) upgrades saving customers time and money.
The world's most advanced, all-IP, BGAN machine-to-machine satellite terminal with integrated antenna and highest IP-66 ingress protection industry rating for outdoor installation.
The Hughes 9502 has unique features that make this terminal possibly the best remote communication solution for low-bandwidth M2M, SCADA, or any IP device control:
► It is a high-speed, real-time Ethernet port to the Internet mag glass for any TCP-IP/Serial M2M, SCADA device.
► The connection is always live 24 hours a day 7 days a week, for most any location on the globe.
► It operates in extreme hot or cold temperatures -40°F to 167°F (-40° to 75° C) using only 4 watts.
► It uses special BGAN M2M service with that does not charge for overhead networking costs.
► Poll remote equipment for 1 to 2 cents per poll (if under 1 Kilobyte). This is a great deal!
► Poll remote equipment 2,000 to 20,000 times per month for $47 to $158 per month!
► BGAN M2M service only bills for the meaningful data transferred through the terminal, and not for
overhead, connection charges, or any data not from the attached equipment or client network.
► Global Coverage - Equipment can be located anywhere without notification to Ground Control.
► Ubiquitous Global Network - Use the same service provider (Ground Control) for all remote locations.
► When a critical issue arises, having broadband 448 Kbps communication speed is there.
► The data connection is open, and stays alive. No wake-up operation needed to transmit/receive.
► It is secure from hackers when powerful firewall rules are in place or using a private network.
► It draws only 3 to 4 watts for an always open TCP-IP network connection. Hibernation mode draws
just 0.01 watt and wakes up (in 30 seconds) on any LAN activity - Excellent for small solar installations.
► SMS messaging control. Hibernate, Activate, Get usage totals, all from any authorized browser.
► It does not require a laptop, or certified technician to install at remote locations.
► Serial M2M devices may use a simple serial to ethernet adapter.
► Service Fees for BGAN M2M start at $47.11 a month for 2 MB Plan (Up to 2,000 monthly polls).
► Hughes 9502 may be configured to operate with standard BGAN Service
